By slowboat to Laos

Rakabudiswa: 26.12.2018

*This blog post is already about 3 weeks old, so don't be surprised. I didn't want to change it much. The time period is from December 1st to 10th.*

The situation was that I was feeling pretty shitty. I could only rest on Thursday, because on Friday we continued our journey to Laos. And it was quite an adventure - we were on the road for 3 days. As I mentioned last time, we are now traveling together as a group of three. Barbara has become a real friend during this time and we have a lot of fun together!!!:)

On the first day, we drove back the winding road to Chiang Mai, then from there towards Chiang Rai, until we reached our destination for the day, Chiang Rai, which is right on the border with Laos.

We spent the second and third day on the slowboat, each day for 6-7 hours, cruising on the Mekong River to Luang Prabang. It was a long, exhausting but incredibly beautiful journey. We got to see so much of Laos' beautiful nature instead of rushing through bad roads on a bus. Despite feeling sick, it was more than worth it!

This is what our boat looked like.

So we arrived in Luang Prabang on Sunday (December 2nd) and... stayed for a total of 8 days. 8 days of doing nothing. It was nice to have a break because we get so many impressions every day. Jule and I also struggled a bit with our stomachs, they're not really into the whole thing here. Nevertheless, we didn't miss out on taking a walk through the night market every evening and enjoying some delicious food?

But actually, we also took a trip to a pretty amazing waterfall. I think the pictures speak for themselves.

Another time, Barbara and I climbed a small hill here in the city to watch the sunset. It was nice to see some sun, but actually we only saw people... You can do it, but you can also skip it :) Nevertheless, we took some great pictures.

Unfortunately, our paths eventually separated. She continued to the south of Laos and Jule and I went to Vietnam on Monday, December 10th! I had planned to fly as little as possible and if possible to travel overland, but we didn't want to endure a 25-hour bus ride to Hanoi on bad roads with crater-like potholes, so we decided to fly instead. And since we still had to apply for our visa and had some problems with the flight, we will continue our journey on Monday. But that's what fathers are for, they solve all problems as personal assistants in Germany.

In conclusion, I am absolutely amazed by Laos and I didn't expect it to have such beautiful nature!
