02/10/ Death Valley

Rakabudiswa: 03.10.2016

This morning we started early for the drive through Death Valley to Las Vegas. In Death Valley, the lonely long roads led us first past the Stovepipe Dunes, a dune landscape in the middle of the steppe area of the valley. Here we made our first stop and explored the dunes on foot. The sun was shining at its best and heating us up. The road then led us past Furnace Creek, a small Western-style oasis in the middle of the oasis, where we had lunch at the saloon. Outside, during this time, the gusts of wind turned into a permanent storm. The route then took us to the lowest point in the western hemisphere: Badwater Basin, a dried-up lake at -86m. Here, mainly the salt residues of the former lake were visible and walkable. On the way back, we drove through the one-way road 'Artist Drive'. This led through rugged rocks and in the middle was a rock wall with magnificent natural color changes. Lastly, we hiked into a canyon where an access road to Death Valley used to be. Remnants of the road can still be seen today. After that, we continued straight to Las Vegas without any further interruptions. We will be staying here for the next 3 nights.

Pictures will follow around 5pm German time, for now it's time to sleep.
