Tag 18: Stara Palanka - Tekija

Rakabudiswa: 18.05.2024

This morning at 7:30 a.m. I received the liberating message via WhatsApp from my landlady: "Hi, the ferry is working today." The only problem: When I asked when the first ferry would be, I was told "Now is the first one." So I had to hurry and not leave anything behind... When I arrived at the pier, the ferry was just landing. There was an Australian couple on the pier besides me, they had probably been waiting for the ferry since the day before yesterday. The ferry finally set off at 7:45 a.m., despite the fact that there was still quite a bit of wind.

On the other side, I got on my bike straight away. After 12 km, I took a short break and had breakfast. Then I continued on asphalted paths (some cycle paths, some country roads) directly along the Danube. From the Golubac fortress, the scenery became really amazing. The valley narrowed considerably and you often rode a few meters above on a road that had been cut into the rock. Again and again, you went through tunnels, some of which were completely unlined on the inside and never lit. I was really glad that I had the hub dynamo with front and rear lights. Sometimes it was uphill for a few kilometers, but you were always rewarded with a great descent.

Because the valley is so narrow, the places you pass are very small and the accommodation options are very limited. In the end, I found a nice holiday apartment and cooked myself something. Now I'm ending the evening on the balcony.
