The Royal Palace of Cambodia

Rakabudiswa: 13.02.2018

Right from the start, it is clear to us that today will be a longer day than yesterday, because there is a large group of children waiting. Before starting the treatment, the monks ask for another photo. This time, we also passed the camera forward to give you an insight. A little scare in the morning: Sina informs us that all the children being treated today are HIV positive. So we have to be extra cautious today. With our Khmer language skills, we can even communicate a little with the children today. The pronunciation still needs improvement, but it is enough for understanding. New vocabulary:

Open your mouth wide = Haa (tomtom)

Is everything OK? = at ey tee?

Deaf = spoek

As you can see from the title, this afternoon we will visit the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. We have arranged to meet Moni and Mara here, who happen to be working on another project at the same time. We know them because they recently graduated from the University of Freiburg.

On the way back, we pass by several "dental clinics" that have a slightly different atmosphere than what we are used to at home. As we pass by, we catch glimpses of Cambodian living rooms. The incredible claim from the guidebook has actually come true: many Cambodians park their beloved cars and mopeds between armchairs and sofas.

Exhausted from a long day, we take the short path to Mama and enjoy our meal. Bon appétit.
