Dinosaurs and Native Americans

Rakabudiswa: 22.08.2023

After the great experience at the Grand Canyon, we decided to drive further into the interior of the country to see more rock monuments.

Along the Colorado River and the Colorado Plateau, there is a lot to see. The first stop is Monument Valley, which is not an official national park, but very well known from film and television. It is located in the middle of a Native American reservation.

On the way there, we accidentally made a detour to an area with numerous dinosaur fossils. There were traces of (Utah) raptors, dinosaur eggs, and petrified remains.

An older lady who lives in one of the villages in the reservation showed us around and showed us the fossils. It was really impressive to see how they were just scattered around on this area. She also told us that there are unfortunately always people who just knock out and take away fossils from the stone.

Once again, the weather was very moderate with 24°C and occasional rain and thunderstorms. If I had known that it was so cool in the desert in summer, I would have brought a few more long pants.

Later in the evening, we found a campsite with a direct view of the main rock formations of Monument Valley.
