Today our day started a bit bumpy. After breakfast, we were still pretty tired and chilled in bed for a while.
Eventually, we got up and rented a scooter again. But it wasn't as easy as before because the brake on the scooter we got didn't work properly. The scooter rental guy didn't want to understand that at first and tried to convince us that it works. We stood our ground and in the end, he gave us his private motocross bike 😅
Then we finally got going. Today, we wanted to go to a hiking area in the mangrove forest. When we arrived there, the navigation sent us to a parking lot. From there, we had to walk to the starting point. It felt like an endless walk in the heat, and we probably could have just taken the scooter.
When we arrived there, we crossed a suspension bridge.
Then we took the boat that you can see in the previous picture, or rather, we had a boat ride through the mangrove forest. We really didn't feel like walking anymore.
Then we were taken to a 'beach'. Actually, they were just sandbars in the middle of the sea. It was really crazy, and you can't really describe it. It was once a village that is now flooded. But there were still market stands on one of the sandbars. So we walked through the water to one of the sandbars and were just amazed and walked around there. We especially loved that we were completely alone. We would have loved to have beach chairs with us and just stayed there.
Then we took the boat back and still walked a bit through the forest.
In the end, we came out at the official entrance 😅 We saw that the entrance fee would have been 5000 Riel (a little over 1€). But since we came from the completely opposite side, the walk was worth it. The lady at the entrance didn't ask us for money afterwards either.
Then we treated ourselves to a coffee. Unfortunately, it feels like no one here speaks English, so once again, they didn't understand that we don't want sugar.
Afterwards, we rode the scooter towards the accommodation and strolled around the market a bit. We were back around 4 pm. That was enough for us today. We chilled and made phone calls in the accommodation until we went back to the fish market in the evening to have dinner there again. We even got a dollar discount again. Probably we're already regular customers on the second evening or something.
Then someone told us that there might be a concert in town. So we walked there for a bit. But they were still setting up, so we left again.
Back in the accommodation, we just showered and now we're lying in bed. Tomorrow we'll sleep in. Maybe there will be more energy reserves then. But for a day that started so uninspired, it was still very nice.
