Dear travel audience,
what can I say, sometimes you stand on the sunny side of life and sometimes on the shady side. It is important to enjoy the sun and always turn your face towards it. Because the memory of warmth will carry us through the shady times and make them more bearable.
On Saturday, May 13th, we took the ferry to Vancouver Island from Vancouver (Tsawwassen) at 1pm. Actually, we had the reservation for 2pm, but we were there too early and just got in line. The guy said that if there's still space, you can take the 1pm ferry, otherwise you just wait in line. And cool - it worked and we were on the island 1 hour earlier. The crossing was very nice, bright sunshine, so we spent the whole time outside on the deck and enjoyed the beautiful nature, and in the end we quickly found our car again *proud*. Finally on the island! Not so many cars anymore, not so much traffic, so everything was more relaxed. We also found our accommodation right away. A nice old house. We also did our routine shopping and prepared for the next day. It would be something very special. Our second wedding anniversary. We got up at 7:30 a.m., had breakfast, got in the car, and went to the whale-watching station, all on time. Now the excitement was growing, who would see the beautiful breakfast first and would we see whales. The first good news, no one got sick and no one felt bad, so we can go on more trips on a boat. Nice realization. Second good news, we got goosebumps and tears of joy, even though they weren't orcas, the experience of seeing whales in the wild is indescribable. We saw humpback whales. With many great photos in our luggage, we went to Fishermen's Wharf for sightseeing and ate tacos with oysters and halibut. Due to the high temperatures, we decided to take a break and drove back to our accommodation. Where we are still staying today. Actually, we wanted to travel to Tofino on May 15th, to a lodge right by the sea, with a balcony and ocean view. How much we were looking forward to sitting there and watching for whales with binoculars, and maybe we would have also taken a bear tour by boat. Now memories and hope try to carry us until the departure. Uschi got a fever of 39 degrees at night and we had to extend our stay here (in Victoria), luckily that was possible, but only until Thursday, May 18th. We had to change rooms and move to the honeymoon suite. If it wasn't so sad, it would be really cool.
We're now scraping together the last pennies to make more unplanned bookings. The plan is to drive back to Vancouver on Thursday and be able to check in at our final hotel one day earlier. We're still waiting for a response from the hotel. Maybe I'll take a few small walks alone, but otherwise I think the travel report is now finished. We are infinitely sad.
In good times and bad times, we love and support each other and for that I say thank you!
And I thank you for following! 🫶
