Since we are still in Cairns, we are exploring the area here. We took a day trip to Kuranda. It is located north of Cairns and is also part of the rainforest. You can go there with the Skyrail (cable car above the rainforest) or with the Scenic Railway (very old train). We went by car because we have it 😊. Kuranda is a small village with cute shops where you can buy various things, such as homemade soap, honey, jewelry made of stones as well as leather from animals, and various souvenirs for home. You can also go to parks to see animals. We went to Birdworld, where there are many different species of birds, and to Kuranda Koala Garden. There we had the opportunity to see and even pet koalas, kangaroos, and koalas.
The Barron Gorge National Park is also nearby, so we also visited it. The day was well filled with all the things.
The next day, we set off to see various waterfalls south of Cairns. You can book tours there everywhere, but they are expensive and you only have a certain amount of time to stay at each location. So, it is much more relaxed with your own car. Our first stop was the Babinda Boulders. Incredibly huge rocks through which the water finds its way into the valley. You have the opportunity to swim in a natural lake in a "swimming hole". The water is crystal clear and cold.
Our second stop were the Josephine Falls. They are among the most beautiful waterfalls in North Queensland. You can view the waterfall from three points. At one of the points, you can step into the crystal clear and cold water, swim in it, and climb the rocks to then slide down on the rock, which is incredibly fun!!
The third waterfall was the Millaa Millaa Falls. We only made a short stop there. A beautiful waterfall that flows into a small lake.
Both tours can be done on your own without any concerns. You can save some dollars.
