With an adventurous boat, Vishal (an Indian I met in Bintan and who is also currently working for his company in Singapore) and I made our way 'back in time'.
Pulau Ubin is a small island east of Singapore, where you can still find a lot of untouched nature and small traditional, still inhabited huts. Time seems to have stood still there and the rapid modern developments of Singapore seem to have passed by the small island.
Once we arrived at Pulau Ubin, we rented bicycles in the small settlement next to the boat docking station (calling it a harbor would be an exaggeration) and then spent the rest of the day exploring the island on our somewhat rickety bikes...
...beautiful nature,
...breathtaking viewpoints,
...rainforest,
...hidden trails
...and amidst it all, small hidden huts,
...not only on land,
...and of course, the friendly, deeply-relaxed, mostly elderly residents.
When we returned our bikes in the evening, we were exhausted (some parts were quite steep and rough) but above all impressed. Pulau Ubin is definitely one of my favorite places in Singapore!
