Heading to the Kalahari!

Objavljeno: 18.02.2019

Today we have a long distance ahead of us, 260km gravel road. Hardly anyone meets us, we pass by a few farms, there is no cell phone network. We are right in the middle of nowhere.

First we have to go through a few rivers: dips where the streams flow across the road. It rained a lot here three days ago, the water is standing in swamps on both sides of the road. The children and Konstantin have a lot of fun driving through the deep puddles, what a joy when they splash! Then we go over countless sand dunes up and down. It's very amusing to see from the crest the next dunes and the seemingly endless stretch of hills.

Halfway there is the sleepy town of Koes. On recommendation, we find a small "Coffee Shop" here, with a lovely front yard, where we sit and relax. The children get a delicious warm sandwich, Konstantin gets a cold cola and I get a nice coffee with chocolate cake. Luckily, we don't have to refuel, because the gas station is on lunch break. Children in school uniforms stream in all directions after school.

Just before the entrance to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (and therefore also the border between Namibia and South Africa), it starts to thunderstorm terribly. Farewell tears. What a wonderful time we had in the three weeks in Namibia!

We still encounter two huge cute turtles crossing the road.

So now we are leaving Namibia.

Today we sleep in a "wilderness camp", inside the park, there is no fence. In a huge tent! From our barbecue terrace we look down into the dried-up riverbed. A group of giraffes strolls leisurely past in the evening light. A jackal keeps sneaking around us.

What an experience to sit right in the middle of it.

Konstantin is our grill master and we eat delicious food.

At night we hear hyenas howling and the wind gusts around the tent. A fantastic night!
