The last 2 days we spent in Townsville, a slightly larger city in Queensland. As usual, our first stop was the Information Center to get some good tips for our stay and, if necessary, book tours. We then decided to visit the nearby island 'Magnetic Island' on Sunday by ferry and tick off the main points in the city on Saturday and relax a bit 😜
So we went up to Castle Hill, the highest point in Townsville, with our camper, from where we got a good overview of the city.
We continued to the well-sounding 'Rock Pool' to cool off, but unfortunately, this was not possible as it was closed due to algae 😪 damn it
Well, nothing we can do about it, so we lay down under a palm tree and enjoyed the sound of the sea and the rays of the sun on our skin. Of course, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sun hat are always with us, and so far we haven't had a sunburn, but it is clear that the sun here is much stronger than at home.
After sunbathing, since I still have enough of the sea, to be honest, we treated ourselves to an iced coffee and a chocolate ice cream at the pier and later two delicious cocktails, even though Simone's was very very spicy (why does she always have to try something new 😉, but who doesn't dare doesn't win)
Today, as I said, we took the ferry to the really beautiful island 'Magnetic Island'. On the island, we took the bus for about 15 minutes to the opposite side to 'Horseshoue Bay', which is named after its horseshoe shape. There we enjoyed our salad with magnificent sea views and chilled under the palm trees again.
After the island, we went to a Wildlife Farm today, where we could see crocodiles, snakes, wombats, kangaroos, and koalas up close. We even got to feed the kangaroos and watched the crocodile feeding, and we took a selfie with the koala 🤩
Today we continued our tour - 3 hours north to Airlie Beach to the Whitsundays, where we will stay until Thursday. The surroundings have changed significantly now, we have left the rainforest behind us, and now it is rather desolate and dry, just as we imagined Australia. Rain is urgently expected, especially because of all the bushfires.
