Although we decided the day before, after intense study of the weather report, that Novigrad is the perfect place to escape the rain, and our plan worked well in the evening: at least one evening by the sea without rain.. it only worked moderately well in the end..
Hardly were we there, the rain was already there... All night, all morning: rain
It stopped raining around noon, we rocked with Johann out of the mud, and went into town.
Novigrad is very sympathetic, small but nice, not very modern, not particularly chic, but somehow original / cozy. Small harbor, old houses in narrow streets, small harbor, populated with friendly people, what more could you want... Maybe it was just the absence of rain that we liked so much ;) But I think we'll come here again, after all, it's not far from home to the sea.
However, in the afternoon we drove on to Cres.. by ferry... supposedly it shouldn't rain there either ;) On the way there, we passed a mini-village up on the Bard, high above a bay and a coal power plant. Deserted, narrow, obviously still inhabited and populated with many cats ;) interesting.. but also somehow eerie.
I had imagined Cres to be very cool, with a really great campsite according to the internet.. was looking forward to it! But actually you have to say, Cres is not particularly great.. The island is green--> yes; It is rocky-->yes; otherwise. ? very barren, a long lonely road that runs through the whole island.. otherwise actually nothing. The great campsite was desolate.. with hardly any people around in the middle of nowhere.. almost eerie. So we drove the whole way back, almost back to the starting point, so that we could transfer to Krk in the morning, again by ferry :) # Island hopping ;) The campsite we found was quite nice, quite large but also quite well attended.. nice people and everything clean. Unfortunately, in the dark it was quite difficult to find a free spot, so we maneuvered ourselves into a dead end twice and could immediately test Johann's and Markus' teamwork reverse driving skills in the dark.. what an exciting day.
It has to be said that this campsite would be nice if the sun were shining. Beautiful beach, funny layout and even a winding nude area.. where naked people even walk around in the dark and in rainy weather ;) At least what we could see in the dark we liked.
The next morning we realized that the place where we awkwardly maneuvered back and forth in the evening to turn around was probably a vacant pitch - at least I think so, Markus doesn't believe it! ;) But well.. we did find another free spot, so at least we have something to write about ;)
Oh, and actually... it didn't rain last night. but it rained the next morning! Can't go without it ;)
Now we're on the ferry to Krk.. and guess what: it's raining :)
Krk and Basca are actually pretty cool.
After Cres, I didn't expect much from Krk, but I was totally thrilled. First of all, it didn't rain--> great! Everything so green, everything planted, colorful, just nice and cozy :)
Then there was the small narrow old town of Basca, the beach and of course the ruins of the castle and the church that tower above the city.
It's strange that all the fat tourists are standing at the cemetery taking pictures, as you can drive there by car and have a good view. We climbed even higher, to the plateau of the hill.
On the way down, we almost got caught in the rain, but we escaped - to a guesthouse where we passed the time with beer and fish/seafood.
