BLOG 24 - 1 / Ship Cruise Tierra del Fuego and Cape Horn (Part 1 from Punta Arenas to Pia Glacier)

Objavljeno: 04.03.2020

We start in Punta Arenas in the evening. The next morning, we land in Ainsworth Bay with the Zodiac boats. We take a hike in the subantarctic, Magellanic rainforest - today very wet from top to bottom - but with interesting vegetation and beautiful landscape. In the afternoon, we go to Tucker Island to visit a colony of Magellanic penguins - unfortunately, we are not allowed to go ashore, but we still get very close to the animals as they are not disturbed by us and the boats at all. On the way back to the ship, we can see cormorants and sea lions in Tucker Bay.

On the second day, we cruise on the northeast arm of the Beagle Channel and enter Pia Bay, where we go ashore at Pia Glacier - on a red carpet laid out just for us! From the beach and later from a viewpoint reached by a short but steep hike, we have fascinating views of the glacier, bay, and mountains. The bright blue sky adds to the beauty.
