Dream trip to Hawaii 2018 - Island Hopping Part 2 Oahu

The 1st day - the 1st tour on Oahu

It would have been good to sleep in the next morning, but we wanted to see a lot. After all, we only had 3 days per island.

So we got up early and headed to the bus station for the hop-on buses.

On day 1, we wanted to visit one of the most famous places in Hawaii, the Iolani Palace. Since Veterans Day was approaching, the building was decorated with plenty of flags.

After a quick photo stop at the palace, the King Kamehameha Statue, and the government building, we got back on the bus, going on and on, stop by stop.

We discovered a wonderful restaurant at the Aloha Tower and took a break there. At 'Gordon Biersch', we had delicious island-style food and - for the undecided - a selection of beers. The waiter brought 6 small glasses and a coaster with information about the origin and names of the beers. We were surprised to see a German beer on the list. But one beer will stay in our memory forever. It was reddish and tasted terrible. The name, something with 'fear', was program.

The evening ended on the beach of Waikiki with a beautiful sunset.

The 2nd day - the 2nd tour

The bus for the island tour picked us up at 7:30 a.m., so again no sleeping. But the driver entertained us well and the tiredness disappeared quickly. After circling the Diamond Head crater, the first stop was Hanauma Bay - simply breathtaking. If we had had more time, I would have jumped into the water!

During the tour, our guide/driver/entertainer in one person never got tired of explaining the Hawaiian culture to us and teaching us words in his language. One of the first words was the name of the state fish of Hawaii - yes, they have something like that - an absolute tongue twister: Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. Throughout the day, it turned out that the driver had a German grandfather. That was not our last encounter with locals with German roots.

We stopped again at the Halona Blowhole overlooking Sandy Beach.

We continued along the coast and past the Ko'olau Mountains to the next highlight, the Byodo-In Temple in Kaneohe.

Our next stop was the North Shore, where we could admire many waves and some surfers. We also had fresh coconut and pineapple.

The Nu'uanu Pali Lookout was our next destination. From here, we had a breathtaking view of the island.

Then we went downhill again to Waimea Valley and the waterfall of the same name. In the huge park, there are replicas of native huts that provided us with some motifs for the camera. And chickens - chickens everywhere. There is hardly a place where you don't see the animals.

At the Dole Plantation, we tried various nuts and would have loved to take tons of them with us. Nuts with cinnamon, nuts with onions and garlic, nuts with honey... the list would be too long.

At the end of the trip, the driver took another round over the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and through the 'old town' of Honolulu.

The 10-hour trip created unforgettable memories for us.

The 3rd day - the 3rd tour

We wanted to take it easy on the 3rd day. After buying ourselves a small breakfast, we went to the beach and enjoyed it there.

At 9:30 a.m., our bus for the next excursion - Pearl Harbor - arrived. There we could gather many impressions.

In the afternoon, we didn't do anything except enjoy the sun and the warm water at the beach.

In the evening, we visited 'The Shell' theater.
