When searching for the perfect and affordable prices for the return from Sydney to Hamburg, fate sent us back to Bali. And if we're in Bali, let's do it right again. 6 nights made a lot of sense for us, so we booked a small villa in Canggu. With a pool right outside the door and plenty of space in the room, we enjoyed 5 days in Canggu, not far from the airport in Denpasar. 90% humidity and an average of 32° welcomed us, and the sweat was non-stop.
Since we planned to stay in a small area for the week, we decided not to rent a scooter, which made us pretty much the only ones in Canggu. But the Yoga Lodge, the surfing beach, local food, and the main street for strolling were in the immediate vicinity. Anni got the Unlimited Yoga Pass for a week, and Michel rented a board for the time. The variety of yoga classes at the Serenety Eco Yoga Centre is huge, so we were able to try out many styles, and Michel also had a lot of fun with Aerial Yoga in a hammock, Vinyasa style, or traditional Hatha Yoga.
The waves were perfect for beginners, the water was like a bathtub, only the trash and dirt were unpleasant. Even though there is definitely something happening in Bali and many are helping to tackle the trash problem, it is a long way to go and the locals in particular lack insight. Especially after nightly storms, tons of trash were washed into the sea, where the beach had been cleaned the night before and was almost completely clean. On that day, we basically paddled through the water with plastic bags on our arms. That is very alarming.
The rest of the time, we strolled and relaxed by the pool.
A funny coincidence was meeting two couples from Kiel on the same day. We met Henrik and Lisa in the morning at breakfast and arranged to meet them in the evening for Nasi Goreng. The two are currently living in Bali for their master's thesis and future planning.
That was very nice and interesting to hear what the plans of other globetrotters look like and what they experience.
On the last day, we went to yoga twice. Since a massage was included in the yoga pass, we took advantage of the offer and had a massage together for an hour. That was quite pleasant and something we should treat ourselves more often. After this relaxation, we indulged in fresh juices, curry, and burgers and are now incredibly excited to go home!
