Reyðarfjörður - Hengifoss - Egilsstadir - Reyðarfjörður

October 3rd, 2023: Beautiful morning walk, surrounded by sugar-covered mountain peaks and the most beautiful autumn colors... Our destination today is Hengifoss - once again one of the most beautiful and, at 118 meters, one of the highest waterfalls. The basalt rock that frames the waterfall is interspersed with layers of reddish clay formed from volcanic ash. And once again we were lucky and caught a gap in the rain for the ascent and descent. In the afternoon we enjoy the hot pot in the Sundlaug (public bath) in Egilsstadir - still one of the best places to talk to locals. We spend the night again at the quiet campsite in Reydarfjördur.
