Matka Canyon

Only about 15 km west of Skopje is the spectacular attraction of Matka Canyon and the reservoir located within it, which is perfect for a day trip. We made a quick detour here before heading to Thessaloniki.

The most convenient way to reach the canyon is by car, either your own or a rental. Alternatively, you can also take a public bus or a taxi. After about 25 minutes (depending on traffic in Skopje), you will reach the parking lot. From here, you can continue on foot, following the stunning path along the cliff to the dam. The trail then leads along the lakeshore, partly carved into the rock walls.

After a few hundred meters, you will find a wonderful restaurant with a beautiful terrace. They even have hotel rooms available. It's a great option for those who want to explore the many hiking trails in this area. Boat tours are also available on the lake, or you can rent your own kayak. All in all, it's a very rewarding trip!
