The Glymur Waterfall was considered the tallest waterfall in Iceland until 2011.
Glymur is located off the main routes on the Hvalfjördur. It is west of Lake Hvalvatn.
The waterfall can be reached from a parking lot after a 3 km hike through a beautiful valley with sometimes steep ascents and descents, crossing a river on a log with a wire rope.
Due to the narrow gorge, it is unfortunately not possible to see the waterfall in its entirety. The hike is definitely worth it! For me, this waterfall was special. I did the tour at night and the fog rolled into the gorge, giving it a mystical touch. This would be a great location for another part of Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, where Lord Voldemort could appear at any moment to banish you to this gorge forever.
It looked very dramatic!
What helped me a lot when crossing the river is that I have spent my whole life balancing on stacked logs with my children. Piece of cake! ;-)
