Road trip

Objavljeno: 03.09.2022

In the last few days we have driven a lot. The day before yesterday we made a stop near Cartago. What can I say... the accommodation was nice but it was really really cold. You get used to the warm temperatures very quickly. We visited the largest church in CR. And the next morning at 8:00 am we hit the road again. We decided not to visit the Nicoya Peninsula, it would take us three days and we don't have that anymore. We'd rather spend them in the south. Yesterday we drove the Pan-American Highway (which is a famous road from the very bottom of South America, Tierra del Fuego, to the very top of Alaska). Somewhere I thought it had to be a highway... nope, it's not. 137 km, 4 hours. Any more questions? We passed the highest point of the Pan-American Highway at nearly 3,500 meters. From there you can see the oceans. The Caribbean Sea to the east, the Pacific to the west. Well, you could, if you could see more than your hand in front of your face because of the fog.😳 Too bad, maybe another time. Somewhere in the middle of the way, I noticed that we have been in Costa Rica for almost a week and I haven't seen the sea yet. We decided to check in to the accommodation in the evening and go straight to the sea. We arrived around noon.

It simply took our breath away. As beautiful as the rainforest and this whole country is, these beaches, these waves are perhaps the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Miles of sandy beach, not too concrete with sun loungers. Completely untouched. Palm trees as far as the eye can see.

I have no idea how these waves were, but they were supposedly huge.

A paradise for surfers. And we could observe them to our heart's content.

You can't really swim there. But you can have a lot of fun in the water. The waves are so powerful.

Depending on how strong the waves are, you can go up to your knees in the water. Yesterday we went a little further. I got the kids out of the water. We all had a lot of fun.😍

Then we moved into our accommodation. This is a farm with beautiful ponies and dogs.

We have a hotel with a view of the garden. One picture shows the view from my bed. The only disadvantage of this house is that it is not completely finished yet. It will have a ceiling. But the ceiling doesn't have a floor yet, which means there are beams and everything is open underneath. Yes, you just have to accept animals in Costa Rica. We did release a cockroach outside, we released the second one this morning. Geckos are welcome here as roommates. After all, they eat mosquitoes. And they are cute. On this farm, the family operates a bar. Maybe 100 meters away from our house. We went there briefly last night.

I'm telling you, it's awesome. There are about six horses in the stables. Next to them cows, and in between there is a sports bar in saloon style. The dogs accompanied us again. They always gather around Elias. He likes them and they like him.

There is one more thing I wanted to tell you. In the second-to-last accommodation, we found a washing machine.

Here you wash with top loaders and cold water. So nothing gets really clean, but at least it doesn't smell anymore. 😂🙈

Washing is one thing, drying the laundry is a completely different story here in Costa Rica. It took me three days to dry the laundry. And I already had tips from locals. If you leave the laundry outside a little too long and the humidity rises, it becomes wetter than it was before. An absolute horror. I really need to practice that. 😅

This morning we are meeting with German expats in San Isidro de El General. Afterwards, we will make another beach stop at the Osa Peninsula where we will spend the next two days. Osa is home to 2.5% of all animal species in the world.

I'm so excited!

Pura Vida, my loves! 🦋🦎🐆🦜🦥
