26/10/2019 - San Francisco → Leggett → Eureka / USA (440 Kilometers)

The next morning we took Lukas and Jakob to the airport in San Francisco and once again went to the rental company to exchange our car, because we don't need as much space for just the two of us. We were allowed to choose another car and decided on a VW Jetta. And so our road trip continued, heading north. Our destination for the day was the city of Eureka, only 280 miles away. On the way there, we stopped in Leggett. More precisely, we drove through the 'Drive Thru Tree'. This is a gigantic sequoia tree with a height of 96 feet and a diameter of 21 feet. In 1930, a tunnel was carved into the tree, allowing us to drive through with our car. We tried to capture the whole tree in a photo while driving through, but its dimensions are too massive. On the drive, thick smoke clouds from a fire hung in the mountains next to the road. We reached our motel in Eureka and a receptionist informed us that the power would likely be shut off in the entire region soon due to the fires. So we decided to have dinner while everyone was still able to cook. At 10 PM, the lights went out. Good night.
