Since we wanted to go diving in the sea, we drove to Mahahual by the sea for 2 nights. Mahahual is a small fishing village in the southeast of Mexico, just under two hours by car from Bacalar. We went there by collective, a small minibus with space for about 15 people. At the bus stop, we actually met Annie again, the dog that had been following us (I named her that). Mahahual is also a port of call for cruise ships. That's why we were glad that our accommodation was a bit outside. After arriving at the hotel, we went on an exploration tour and searched for the only ATM in town. Apparently, no ship docked that day. We walked along the beach. It was cloudy and the town seemed deserted. Hardly any people. A few restaurants, but all empty. We found that quite pleasant. After we had eaten something, we finally found the ATM in a hotel that was really far away. In the evening, we went out for tequila for the first time. And Cerveza in a bar. We had a few more tequilas and the evening was very funny, so the next day we just hung out on the hotel beds with a hangover. In the evening, we had dinner, took a walk by the sea and went to bed early, because the next day we went diving..:-) We were both quite nervous, we had both had long diving breaks and had to get back into it... but everything went well, our divemaster Nacho took good care of us underwater, we saw a huge moray eel, stingrays (I can't remember the German word right now), and a giant shrimp. Of course, fish and corals too. It was also great to dive again :-) on the first dive we were 18m deep and on the second 12m. The visibility underwater was pretty good, about 15 meters. Next, we want to take the night bus to Palenque in Chiapas in the jungle on the same evening..
