At 9 o'clock we were on the road again after a mediocre breakfast. The plan was only 11 km to Melchboden, but with 900 meters of altitude difference. From there we were supposed to take the bus and train to the hotel.
It was quite cold, 8 degrees, and totally cloudy or foggy. In some places you couldn't see more than 50 meters. That' why there aren't many photos.
Anyway, the trail was great again! A narrow path, always uphill, partly rocky paths, partly beautiful sandy ground.
After about 2 hours we arrived at the Rastkogelhütte where we took a break. Gradually, the many other hikers we had overtaken also arrived.
After a short break, we continued on a trail over the Arbiskopf (2280 m) to Melchboden, always up and down along the mountain ridge. After nearly 4 hours we were then at the Rasthütte, from which we were supposed to take the bus.
But 11 km was not enough for Barbara and me 😬. So we looked at the hiking app, which indicated 14 km to the destination. With 1700 meters of altitude difference downhill.
So let's go 😀! It started on a beautiful steep and narrow path where we had to concentrate very much. The best thing was that the trail was completely empty!
Then, unfortunately, after 3 km came a dry spell on the road, about 3 km. After that, it became really nice again! Always through the forest, and always downhill. A part of the trail was really adventurous! It was more like a dried-up stream bed, full of rubble and very steep. It would not have been possible without hiking poles. And it was very strenuous! But it got even worse. For about 2 km, the trail was so narrow that it could hardly be seen. And several trees had fallen and were lying on the trail. Climbing over them, climbing underneath them, or detours across the steep slope. We were glad when we reached a gravel road!
Then we had to walk another 5 km straight to the hotel. Everyone else was already having dinner, which we enjoyed immediately. The Hotel Perauer is very nice! Dinner was delicious!
In total, it was 29 km, 999 meters of altitude gain, and 1735 meters of altitude descent.
Tomorrow we will follow the rules to the letter 😬.
