Hi guys,

The end of Guatemala is slowly approaching, and there is no better place to enjoy it than in Antigua. The city was the capital of Guatemala a long time ago, and Antigua is known for its many churches. You already know that Guatemala has beautiful landscapes, but we saved the highlight for the end. Antigua is surrounded by several partially active volcanoes. We have the highest volcano, Acatenango (3976m), the Agua (3760m), the active Fuego (3763m), which has eruptions several times a day, and the Pacaya (2552m).

You can climb all of these volcanoes, so we decided to allocate half a day for Pacaya. If hiking uphill is too tiring, you can rent a horse. We used our own healthy feet. The view of the other volcanoes was truly worth it. The descent takes us over 15m high lava rocks, which were glowing hot magma two years ago. At some points, the rocks are so hot that you can even roast marshmallows. Done and done 😋.

We also went on many small day trips. For example, we went to the San Christobal El Alto restaurant. Once we reached the top, we had the best view of Antigua (in our opinion). The special thing about the restaurant is that they try to produce as much of their food as possible by themselves. Organic food, so to speak.

On one day, we explored the city of Antigua itself, with its market, the Central Park, and the aforementioned churches. Among other things, we visited the Santa Domingo Hotel, which was built around the old ruins of the Santa Domingo temple and can still be partially seen in the courtyard.

So we spent the last days in Guatemala relaxing, and we're looking forward to Brazil.

Best regards, your Egger Girls

Hi guys,

These are our last days in Guatemala, and the city of Antigua is the best place to enjoy the country. Antigua was the capital of Guatemala for several years and the city is known for its many churches. We now know that Guatemala has a beautiful landscape, but the highlight comes at the end. The city is surrounded by many volcanoes. We have the highest volcano, Acatenango (3976m), the Agua (3760m), the active Fuego (3763m), which has eruptions maybe twice a day, and lastly the Pacaya (2552m).

You can climb all of these volcanoes, so we decided to go to the Pacaya volcano. The hike is not very exhausting, but if you want, you can rent a horse. We both hiked with our healthy legs. The view of the other volcanoes was amazing. The descent took us over a lava stone field that is 15 meters deep. Two years ago, the field was glowing hot magma. On some parts of the field, it is so hot that you can roast marshmallows. Said and done 😋.

We also took several day trips in Antigua. For example, we went up to the San Christobal El Alto restaurant. From the top, you have the best view of Antigua (in our opinion). The special thing about the restaurant is that they try to produce as much of their food as possible themselves. Organic food, so to speak.

One day, we explored the city of Antigua itself, with its market, the central park, and the churches. We also visited the Santa Domingo hotel. The hotel was built around the old ruins of the Santa Domingo temple, which can still be partially seen inside.

As you can see, we had really relaxed last days in Guatemala, and we're very excited about Brazil.
