Until afternoon lots of sun, then some rain, cloudy in the evening, clear again at night.
Northern lights in the sky - weak green streaks already visible before 10:00 p.m., becoming more visible over the still bright region in the west and between the clouds, you can see it move, even directly above us! A little later by the sea, with no disturbing lights, green streaks, spreading spots, wavy fields and flashing rays are clearly visible again and again! Yippee!
After an extensive walk, we treat ourselves to fish soup and fish gratin on the terrace of a café, in the warming midday sun, wonderful. In Svolvær, we only do a big shopping including bike tube and tire, and arrive in the Polarlight Center of Rob and Theres in Laukvik in the afternoon.
We are very warmly welcomed here, move into our cozy apartment, and meet with our hosts in the evening for a conversation about northern lights. Rob has equipped a whole room with technical devices to measure and display magnetic activities. It is not even completely dark outside yet, when he announces aurora activities and we all run outside. Indeed, despite the clouds and relative brightness, something can already be seen. We dress warmly and go to the sea with Gerd's camera, where we thoroughly enjoy the first northern lights of our lives.
Later in the night, it should clear up, so Gerd sets his alarm clock for 2:00 a.m. and we go out again, out of town. Now we can not only enjoy the northern lights activities, but also the starry sky.
