Day 2 in Zion NP - today: Canyon Overlook Trail

To get our limbs used to dry conditions again, today it was time to hike a small, short trail to the Canyon Overlook in Zion National Park.

Thorsten had already walked this path in 2017 and I had voluntarily refrained from doing so... Overlooks, or the paths leading to them, usually have something that doesn't give me much joy: height... or rather, depth

This time I listened to Thorsten, who assured me that the path was quite doable for me as well. So we went back to Zion in the morning and first drove a long road with switchback bends, which offered beautiful views of the rock formations and the valley. After driving through a tunnel approximately 2 km long through the rock, we parked our car (which, by the way, purrs like a sewing machine again and has no quirks) on the side of the road and set off for the Canyon Overlook, which ended at an altitude of 1,800 meters.

The path was partly close to the edge of the cliff on smooth stones and fine sand, and it already required some effort from me, but that shouldn't be the topic here. The total length of the path was a little over a mile. Not long, but still challenging for me.

Arriving on the plateau, we had a magnificent view down into the valley. We could see the long road with the switchback bends that we had driven before. And ultimately, the overlooks always offer a special view - if only the path there weren't sometimes so challenging... One could say here: what doesn't cost anything is also worth nothing 😊
