13.02.2020 - Day 50 - San Francisco, USA

The motto for the day was: Run until your socks smoke 😉.

Since the weather today was not as radiant and cooler than yesterday, we took it a bit slower this morning. After breakfast, we lit the fireplace and dedicated ourselves to our e-book readers. Actually, I prefer to have a real book in my hands, but when I think about the weight of the books I have already read on this trip, I'm really glad to have my Kindle with me.

Afterwards, we decided to get up and walk down to Union Square and then down to Market Street, the main shopping street in San Francisco. We simply let ourselves be carried away, were thrilled by the atmosphere of this most un-American city in the USA, and enjoyed not having anything special to do. And since we were in walking mode, we also decided to walk further to the piers on the bay, even though they are not just around the corner. When we arrived there, we visited the beautiful market hall in the building of the "Port of San Francisco" and had to restrain ourselves from buying something at each of the food stands.

Since we had already walked about 50 km at this point, we came up with the brilliant idea of going to Fisherman's Wharf, which we did, interrupted only by a snack at his Surf-Diner and a visit to the sea lions at Pier 39.

At some point, all the walking 😥 really started to get on our nerves and Brigitte made the great suggestion to simply take the Cable Car back. And since this suggestion was unanimously accepted by the rest of the Rottberg/Flesch travel group, we made our way, of course on foot, to the Bay Street stop. There, the Cable Car had to be manually turned around, but then it started towards Bush Street. That too was a unique, although quite expensive (a ticket costs $8) experience. A ride on the Cable Car is an absolute must when visiting this amazing city!

When we arrived at the hotel, we didn't go straight to our room, but Brigitte had heard about a wine tasting with small snacks that takes place every day between 5pm and 7pm in the fireplace room on the first floor. And it is completely free of charge. And since "free" is a word that we don't hear very often on this trip, we didn't hesitate and made our way to the tasting 😋. To our surprise, we had the fireplace room, snacks, and wine completely to ourselves. In other words.....going out to eat tonight is cancelled! 😂😂😂

@Gerhard: Omaha lassen wir diesmal aus und fliegen dafür nach Cancun bevor es nach NYC geht 😀. Und durch die Überquerung der Datumsgrenze haben wir ja einen Tag gewonnen. Läuft....😂
