Our second stage is also beautiful.
After a chilly night in Fatima's somewhat musty-smelling but well-equipped Airbnb apartment in Vila Nova de M., we had a good breakfast under an apricot tree. That made up for the old mattresses and strengthened us for the route ahead, which first took us on asphalt through the city, then along a busy main road over the Rio Mira, until we finally turned right through bushes and a cork oak forest on the fisherman's path back to the coast. Now we walked many kilometers, mostly above the cliffs, sometimes through bamboo bushes or small forests, sometimes over colorful dunes or meadows, and once down to the beach to give our sore feet a cool bath, always along the coastline. The weather was perfect with blue skies and a light breeze, so we arrived at the youth hostel in Almograve not so exhausted after today's sluggish 15 kilometers. The town itself doesn't have much to offer and the best-rated restaurant with the lovely name Mar Azul unfortunately didn't offer the delicious fish dishes we had hoped for, but turned out to be a Nepalese restaurant on the side of the town furthest from the sea. But we're not complaining - the food was good and the youth hostel even served port wine as a nightcap. So we really had a wonderful day of hiking today. Tomorrow we have a much longer stage ahead of us with temperatures of up to 25 degrees and our feet are not quite as unscathed as they were at the beginning - so it will certainly be a bit more difficult at times.
