Monday, 22 July 2019 – Day 2

For breakfast there is coffee from Julius Meinl, look at that.

It's easy to get to the center by subway (weekly ticket recommended) and Via dei Cappuccini takes us to the Capuchin monastery. In this 500-year-old monastery we visit the museum and the crypt full of "artfully" arranged human skulls and bones. Creepy.

But actually it's about finding the shops like in all other big cities: Brandy Melville, Nike and so on and, when the outside temperature is around 35°C, also Mr. Christmas, a Christmas shop. It's unbelievable what they have.

As expected, the scooters are omnipresent and we treat ourselves to an ice cream break at Giolitti , supposedly the most famous ice cream parlor in the city. Then we walk all the way up Via del Corso to one of the oldest obelisks at Piazza del Popolo .

We wander through the small side streets in search of food and finally find it: La Bottega di Cesare . A cozy little Czech restaurant - just right for a portion of pasta and beer.

A coffee, please. Grace!

Strengthened, we head through the scorching heat at 4 a.m. to the Spanish Steps , which are not as crowded as we feared. When we get home, not only are we dripping from the heat, but so is the air conditioning.

To cool off, I climb into the whirlpool on the roof: yes, nice and relaxed, but not a decisive reason to book the hotel. In any case, a beautiful day in Rome .
