After actually clocking up almost 10,000 steps on our last trip to the cliffs, we were totally exhausted the next day. In addition, Ingo's gallstone had become noticeable again during the night (fish and chips) and I couldn't perform because I had pain in my hip. 😖Accordingly, on our last day in Adare all we had to do was rest (and ibuprofen).
Ingo drove to Limerick at lunchtime to return our rental car. The taxi driver then charged €50 for the return journey (there it was only €40).
So the rental car on this vacation, including insurance and fuel, cost a total of around €550 for 5 days. Pretty steep! 💸 But since our trailer on the ferry is not an option and we have difficulty getting anywhere in Ireland with our big “bomber”, this was the most obvious option. Will we solve it the same way next time? Good question!
It started to rain in the evening 💦, and the rain continued the whole next day. But Monday was another driving day for us anyway 🚐💨, 4.5 hours back to Wicklow to spend 3 more days with our daughter before getting on the ferry back to England.
In Wicklow we headed for Wolohan's Silverstrand again (our tire prints were still visible in the grass, we were now just 20cm further to the left 🤣). This was the campsite with the great view and the seals 🥰
Of course we visited them again on our last day. We counted 15 seals in our bay, they were lazily chilling in the sun, so cute!! The day before, Ingo even saw a baby sucking. 😍😍
Yes, and after we went to the pub twice, went bowling and played cards, unfortunately it was soon time to say goodbye 😢 There is one consolation: our daughter + future son-in-law will be visiting us in Germany in 5 weeks. And we also got a nice “souvenir”: the two of them handed out their “save the date” cards. We'll get married on June 12th, 2024 👰♀️ and so the date for our next trip to Ireland has been set 🙃
The ferry journey from Dublin to Holyhead went without incident. After looking enviously through the large glass pane at the comfortable armchairs in the “Hygge Lounge”, I spontaneously booked the upgrade for us. The €25 (for both) was well spent: you could really stretch out and… heavenly peace! ☺️
Funnily enough, we weren't checked in Dublin or Holyhead. Passports and cat papers were ready, but we were waved through. Well, we'll probably be frisked again at the Eurotunnel tomorrow at the latest.
Today we're spontaneously meeting up with dear friends who happen to be traveling in the UK. We arranged to meet at the campsite in Stratford, where we had already stopped on the way here. 🍻🍷
