The first month in New Zealand flew by. When we look at the first pictures that were taken - for example at Frankfurt am Main airport - we can't believe that they were taken just four weeks ago.
In Germany, time sometimes doesn't seem to pass. Months feel like an eternity and you feel like you're standing still. Here in New Zealand, time flies by. Within the first month alone, we both saw a lot, experienced a lot, and learned a lot. We thought about creating a little review for each month - where we were, what we liked the most, and what we didn't.
To make it clear which answers belong to whom, Tobi's answers will be in bold and my answers will be in italics - because of course, we too don't always agree. ;)
-
- What food did you like the most and which one did you not like? -
Tobi: Salted butter - which actually tastes salty for once. / Cheap white bread - available in way too many varieties for only $1/0.60€ for a loaf. It ended up being seagull food.
Nadine: A peanut-apricot cereal bar - we bought this delicious bar at the beginning and since then, it ends up in our shopping cart with every purchase. / 'Frankfurters Würstchen' in a red artificial casing - an insult to our traditional sausage.
- Did you also have something sweet? -
Original TimTam soaked in milk, if you're interested search 'TimTam Slam' on Youtube.
TimTam is also at the top of my list, but since I've been buying a chocolate bar with Oreo pieces almost every day for a while, it had to be this one.
- Which hike did you like the most this month? -
We both agree - the Mangawhai Cliff Walk impressed us with challenging paths and beautiful views. For us, this track has everything a 'perfect' track should have.
- Where were you most impressed by nature? -
Tawharanui Regional Park - the bird sanctuary shines with untouched nature and a beautiful coast.
The Kauri trees in Waipoua Forest - because of their unimaginable and majestic appearance.
- What could you have done without? -
The 'Thank-You-for-Your-Presentation-Yesterday' purchase of an inedible artificial lemonade at the geologists in Whangarei.
The $25 kayak ride on a way too small area in Hihi Bay.
- Where could you enjoy the most beautiful view? -
There can only be one place for this question - St. Pauls Rock in Whangaroa - after an adventurous climb, a beautiful panorama of various bays and mountains awaits.
- What animal experience stayed in your mind? -
After just one day, we were able to feed a Weka (flightless bird) by hand at the campsite.
The sea snail in Smugglers Bay - I watched her plan for about half an hour.
- Name your beach of the month! -
Rarawa Beach - endless white sand with beautiful sand dunes.
Mangawhai Heads Beach - beautiful gold-black sandy beach, perfect for an extensive beach walk.
- In which city did you feel comfortable? -
In Russell - after a eventful history, a small, beautiful, sleepy harbor town.
In Auckland - despite its hectic city center, it offers many green oases and great views of the skyline.
- Tell us about your biggest adventure in November? -
The hectic first hours in New Zealand without a temporary fixed accommodation for the first night.
The spectacular descents into the unexplored Abbey Caves - the natural spectacle in the deepest chambers of the caves is stunningly beautiful.
- And last but not least: Your favorite pictures from the month of November! -

We hope you enjoyed the little review as much as we did. If you have any further ideas or suggestions, feel free to write to us.
We are excited to see what December has in store for us.
