So this night....it was hellish again. Not only loud music tormented me, but also firecrackers. Not fireworks, but firecrackers. It's all about the noise. The next day I find out that the upcoming Christmas celebration is being celebrated. There are still 10 days left. If they are already celebrating Christmas so loudly, it could be lively.
In the morning, I walk to Lake Nicaragua and walk along the shore. The high humidity is insane. Paired with the heat, it is quite a torture. By the way, Lake Nicaragua is the only freshwater lake where sharks also live. The bull shark is so adaptable that it can live in both fresh and saltwater. Lake Nicaragua is also the only lake with an island that houses two volcanoes.
In the hotel, there is no water, so I postpone showering and have breakfast first. Rice, scrambled eggs, and bread.
At 10 o'clock, I am picked up for the trip to Laguna de Apoyo. The water of this crater lake of an extinct volcano is wonderfully warm. We are here at the Paradise Hostel, which has all the amenities you need for a beach day: sun loungers, hammocks, sanitary facilities, beach bar, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards.
The Central American crater lake Apoyo is located 4 km northwest of Lake Nicaragua in the middle of a caldera area of 36.32 km². It has a diameter of 4 km, the maximum depth is 178 m, and the surface area of the lake is 20.92 km².
I use the time to swim extensively and read in a hammock. The other participants are also very nice.
Back in Granada, I go in search of socks because one of my socks looks a bit worn and next week I will need intact socks for cycling. A pair of socks costs 40 Cordobas, i.e. 1 €.
Then I go to eat at a street restaurant. Since the prices are so low, I assume that the portions will be small. Mistake. Big mistake! I order dishes and now I get a huge portion of pasta with shrimp and a fish with numerous side dishes. Good thing my stomach is so stretchy. Plus iced tea. 15 euros.
Thankfully, I walk back to the hotel in the dark, passing by brightly lit Christmas motifs. But at 27°C, there is no Christmas atmosphere.
