Welcome to Tenerife!

प्रकाशित: 02.09.2018

The adventure of Tenerife began on 09/09/2018. For three months, my home is located at the southern tip of the Canary Island.

The night was short as my flight was at 7:00 am. Sleepy and excited, I boarded the plane. After 5 hours, I finally reached my destination.

A staff member named Hanna picked me up from the airport and we took a taxi to Guargacho, which is only 15 minutes away.

Upon arrival, I was assigned a room and given an explanation of the procedures. The apartment is quite large, but you can imagine what a house run by young adults looks like. Everything here needs renovation and is already outdated. But over time, you get used to the cold shower and the dusty fan. That's how it is in Spain.

I have already made some initial contacts and explored the surrounding area with Katie and Benthe.

Guargacho is a sleepy village full of locals. It's nice to get to know the island away from the tourist centers. The fact that our house is surrounded by several banana plantations creates a certain charm. You don't feel like a random tourist, but you're right in the untouched Tenerife, which may seem unusual for a German at first glance. But I'm getting used to it surprisingly quickly.

On the first evening, we had a welcome dinner with all the other participants and work started on Monday. All newcomers receive a kind of training to make work on the boats easier. We spent the whole day listening to the staff members talking about their individual experiences on the boats. I learned a lot about the project and the marine life off the coast of Tenerife.

In the next few days, there will be a post about the organization and structure of my week, but for now, I have to see for myself what the individual activities are like.
