After a brief night on a fantastic ferry, another highlight awaited us at 6:30 AM - Stockholm 😍.

After a quick snack, we started our sightseeing. It was so early that the Old Town was still empty and most shops were closed.

The Old Town is beautiful and always surprising. We saw the

  • Riddarholmskyrkan (the oldest building in the city)
  • the charming Old Town
  • the narrowest alley
  • the German Church
  • the Storkyrkan
  • the Nobel Museum and the marketplace
  • the Stockholm Palace and the changing of the guard
  • and many other lovely corners

After missing the 'Changing of the Guard' three times in London, we finally saw it here 👍. What a spectacle! It lasted 30 minutes, featuring a mounted band, marching soldiers, the important Swedish flag, a complex choreography (even for the horses), and lots of tourists.

Stockholm is very popular among tourists. For the first time on our trip, there were crowds of tourists. Not comparable to London, but noticeably more than in Helsinki.

For lunch, we enjoyed Smörrebred at a cozy little restaurant.

In the afternoon, we wanted to visit a museum. Two were in the running: the Vasa Museum (old ship, sunk, well-preserved) or the ABBA Museum.

The close vote resulted in: ABBA Museum.

The day ticket also includes some ferries, so we could take a shortcut and ride the ferry from the Old Town to the museum.

The museum was very nicely done, and we had a lot of fun (even while singing 🎶🕺💃).

Afterward, we managed to visit Kungsträdgården, okay, we had seen prettier gardens, so it wasn’t a must-see for us. Then we were just exhausted and took the next tram to the car and headed to the hotel.

Let's see what tomorrow has in store for us.
