From the Last Things...

My last day, I had to take care of the onward journey. For days, I had been in contact with my good friend E., who was visiting his family in Los Angeles from Berlin.

We planned a road trip to San Francisco. E. took care of the itinerary and I had to arrange a rental car. So I spent most of my Monday comparing prices, checking in, and mentally preparing for the next 10 million metropolis.

Nevertheless, I managed to cross off one last item on my New York list. A visit to the Green-Wood Cemetery in southern Brooklyn.

In the magical light of the evening sun, I wandered through the gently hilly cemetery, which offered a particularly beautiful view of Manhattan. Peaceful tranquility, time to contemplate, away from the crowds, seeing New York from a completely different perspective. Culturally remarkable was the ubiquitous presence of obelisks as tombstones. An archaic symbol of masculinity, a sign of Freemasonry, or a precursor to skyscraper architecture? One should think about it in more detail... or not.

Time to say goodbye to New York, my flight to the West Coast was leaving the next morning at 7 o'clock.

"Im magischen Licht der Abendsonne streifte ich durch das sanft hügelige Gräberfeld, von dem aus sich ein besonders schöner Blick auf Manhattan öffnete. Frievolle Ruhe, Zeit nachzusinnen, abseits der Menschenströme, New York von einer ganz anderen Seite." Ab hier müsstest noch stehen: und dann: FICK! LOL
