D-Day+107: Hardwork is over

प्रकाशित: 20.12.2017

Yes my dear readers, it's me. No, I wasn't missing, because I was working hard. For the past 5 weeks, we were at the Rochford Winery and worked as the biggest hard workers. That means we had to work a lot, and by a lot, I mean really a lot. But at least it paid well in terms of hours and money. One shift was even 25 hours straight. Not everyone can say that. What were my tasks, you ask? Well, it sounds derogatory, but mainly garbage men, I mean, cleaning specialists. Because at the big events that Rochford regularly organizes, a lot of garbage accumulates. These big events also have real stars like Elton John or Robbie Williams in February. We had more or less known bands like KC and the Sunshine Gang or Stevie Nicks. But we didn't just take care of garbage, we also helped out wherever assistance was needed. Real hard workers. But the work was also fun. Especially the people there were really friendly. Not only the drunk ones at the concerts, but also the staff. I will particularly remember the owner of the winery Helmut (yes, German), Goldi (Indian and restaurant manager), and Chris (typical Australian whom we often helped). Really legendary people.

The work was sometimes really shitty and disgusting, but we could relax in our own cheap apartment right on the Rochford estate. It was really premium, with a nice bathroom, a good kitchen with a big refrigerator, and even a TV. But due to the high demand for our workforce, we had less free time.

Among the worst tasks were the garbage bin work and the shit on the vineyard. Namely, cutting off small branches from every goddamn plant. And that at 35 degrees Celsius in the blazing sun. At least now we have a bit of a tan. Well, at least I do, Mihan is still as white as a ghost. And the worst thing on the field were the damn flies. It felt like hundreds of these annoying creatures flying into your face and buzzing around your ears. Hellish.

But all in all, we made good money. We often spent it shopping in Lilydale. So, we were thrifty, like real backpackers. Anyway, the place Lilydale had something magical about it. I can't exactly say what...

We also treated ourselves to Star Wars The Last Jedi at the cinema there. Important.

After almost 5 weeks of hard work, we left Rochford with lots of memories and souvenirs. It was a nice time, but now it's finally time to travel. So, be sure to tune in when I write my next post.

Little preview: today we were on Phillip Island and tomorrow Wilsons Prom National Park.

So, see you soon and dig in.
