The next day in Mahahual surprised me, no cruise ships in sight. Therefore, there was plenty of space on the beach and the restaurants were empty, if they were open. The impression of a city can change so quickly.

Next stop was Tulum. Praised by many and not recommended by just as many. I was pleasantly surprised by the city, especially because there was delicious street food on every corner! You just have to ignore the burger, frappe, and pizza shops. To get to the beach, you had to take a collectivo (shared taxi), which can be quite exhausting for a longer stay.

The southern part of the beach is occupied by hotels, which can only be accessed through a private entrance if you get past security. They are very beautiful establishments, if you like that sort of thing (maybe for a honeymoon). The northern part of the beach is located in a nature reserve, and after the ride, you still have to walk 20 minutes. Nice beach, but you can't do much here without your own vehicle.

The two dives the next day were awesome (!) over 30 minutes in a completely dark cave. Diving is only possible with a flashlight, a completely different experience! You definitely shouldn't have claustrophobia here, but it's beautiful to look back at the light from the entrance.

Next, I took the bus three hours to the northernmost part of the Yucatan Peninsula, to the island of Holbox. Shortly after, I switched to a ferry and after twenty minutes, I arrived on a quiet island with no cars (only golf carts and motorcycles are allowed).
'Streets' on Holbox
I like the island! In the north, you'll find a huge sandbar, where you can walk for hours in turquoise-blue water during low tide, wonderful. In the south, it's also calm and you can spend your day undisturbed. In between, you'll find all kinds of bars, hotels, and restaurants where there's always a band performing or a DJ playing. In the evenings, there's something for everyone, partying, street food, or simply lying on the beach, drinking beer, and watching the stars :) I've spent quite a lot of time lying in the sun, reading, and eating the past few days. On the last day, I visited an animal shelter, played with a few dogs, and took them to the beach in the evening, great! So the two weeks are already over, but after two years, it was a successful re-start. I hope it won't take another two years until the next trip!
