Trip to Airfield

Surprise!!!🥳

I actually manage to write a post in a short period of time. Amazing.

Last Friday, we took a trip to Airfield with the kids from our facility. Airfield is a farm in Dublin 14 (a bit outside), and it has been owned by the Overed family since 1894. In 1947, it was bequeathed to the two sisters Letitia and Naomi Overed, who truly understood the principles of self-sufficiency and sustainability. They raised a huge family, bred cattle, cultivated crops, and planted gardens. Over time, the farm was expanded further, and more helpers were needed. Today, the farm is still self-sufficient and offers guided tours of the entire area. If it weren't for Corona, we could try fresh milk there and bake bread together from the farm's own grain. Well then.

So, early in the morning, we walked with all the kids to the S-Bahn station. We got on the train and went to Dublin 14. On the way there, I already noticed that I could see the mountains with their forests in the background more and more, and suddenly it struck me how much I missed walking through a forest. After about 15 minutes of driving, we got off and walked another 10 minutes to Airfield. I thought the way there would be longer, as we first passed some very tall buildings and were actually still in the middle of the city. And suddenly a huge meadow appeared next to me. The first thing I noticed was the smell of freshly mowed grass, which immediately reminded me of home. One of the best scents there is. So, we signed up and got a guided tour of the entire site from a nice lady. We saw the beautiful gardens, the little calves, pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, and a bunch of other things. The kids got a magnifying glass and were supposed to catch insects and look at them. It wasn't an insect, but with a girl, I found a frog under a stone that got more attention from the other children than it had ever received in its life. After that, we went to the playground in Airfield, which is basically located in a forest. It was probably the most beautiful playground I've ever seen. Behind those trees, you could see the tall buildings of the city again, and it became clear to me again that we were actually in the middle of the city. We stayed there for a few more hours and then went back to school.

A wonderful day, even though it was marked by longing for home and my loved ones.
