Traveling in Greece

4:00 - bright light and loudspeaker announcement at maximum volume. They want to wake up everyone who has to get off in Igoumenista. If the one at the very front with the truck oversleeps, no one can leave. After the hustle and bustle is over after an hour, it becomes really quiet and I can sleep for another round.

In Patras, the ferry terminal is not connected to public transportation. This was the opportunity to test the comfort of my equipment seat. The Greek train system uses buses on very dilapidated routes. The bus will take me to the next usable train station in Kiato (which is not in Japan, so Greek train stations are not that bad). From there, a train goes to Athens. The route and the trains look quite modern. However, the speed is more like that of the Harz narrow gauge railway. The train takes nearly two hours for the 100 km between Kiato and Athens! The Athens train station is quite small. Only platforms 7-10 are in use. The display board nicely shows when the trains depart, but not where, you have to ask. In Piraeus, I immediately boarded the ferry, even though there were still 2.5 hours until departure. At 21:00, three ferries leave at the same time, which is like heavy fog in the harbor. Since it's not particularly cold, I'm considering sleeping outdoors on deck tonight. At 10, I found a nice spot, which lasted until about 1. Then it was so windy that there was no more quiet sleep. I had to be careful when packing up so that nothing would fall overboard. I then moved indoors.
