Day 5 - from the Grand Canyon to Page

प्रकाशित: 04.08.2016

So today we woke up right at the South Rim. Well, about 10 meters away from it. Although I've always wanted to see the Grand Canyon, I'm looking forward to continuing our journey today. Firstly, all I see in front of me are rocks in various forms. I find it difficult to distinguish the photos from the different viewpoints. Secondly, I don't feel comfortable being part of the mass tourism. I feel almost like I'm in summer camp.

After a few more viewpoints with our rental car, we are leaving the Grand Canyon this afternoon.

15 minutes later, not only the weather changes by 15 degrees higher, but also the vegetation. Around us, everything was bright and barren, and shortly afterwards, there were red rocks all around us. It's amazing how quickly the environment and the weather can change here.

Page is our destination for today. After checking in at the hotel, we made a quick pit stop. The internet doesn't work here (due to the current weather?). Now we see how much we have come to rely on the internet. In the past, we would just set off and look around or we had the good old travel guide with us. Nowadays, we check the surroundings on our smartphones first. It's not a big deal, I have an offline navigation (two actually), but I still had to figure out how they work :D

Suddenly, the wind started blowing and the sky didn't look promising at all. We actually wanted to go to Horseshoe Bend today. We decided to go to Walmart first, and after we finished shopping, the wind had died down, ha!

Arriving at the parking lot of Horseshoe Bend, we hiked up a sandy path, just like hundreds of other tourists, wearing hiking shoes, sunglasses (because of the contact lenses and the nasty sand), a bottle of water, and with the pre-prepared camera, and then we hiked down an even sandier and steeper path until we stood in front of Horseshoe Bend. I have to admit that we crawled up to the edge in a somewhat special way, but safety comes first ;-) Uli shouted at me twice to come back, but why would I want to jump off? It's too deep. Besides, the biweekly physical therapy and the hiking shoes need to be put to the test.

But seriously, how daring it is for most people to stand so close to the edge just to get an "extraordinary" selfie. I didn't want to see anyone fall off. And luckily, I didn't!

This sight is simply incredible and impressive, showing what Mother Nature can offer. But see for yourself in the photos.

The way back to the parking lot was quite exhausting. After that, we looked for something to eat, which wasn't so easy with all the fast food chains around. We finally decided on Denny's. They had wifi and a 45-minute wait for the food. So we made good use of the waiting time. After eating, we went back to the hotel, and another day comes to an end.
