Mexico - Trip to Tulum

After our two tours with Aledia Tours, the trip to Tulum was our first trip that we undertook on our own. We wanted to visit the Mayan ruins there and then spend some time on the beach. The beach in Tulum is supposed to be especially beautiful.

Collectivos

We set off early because we wanted to be at the ruins before the tourist crowds arrive. From the hotel, we took a taxi to Playa del Carmen to the Collectivo station. There we boarded a Collectivo heading towards Tulum. Collectivos are the public transport in Mexico. They are very cheap and easy to use. There are different directions you can travel in. When you board, you simply tell the driver where you would like to go. They will drop you off there. Apparently, we were traveling during rush hour, as we were the only tourists on board. Otherwise, it was only locals on their way to work.

Ruinas de Tulum

The journey went well so far, we were then dropped off in Tulum near the ruins. From there, we had a bit of a walk to the entrance. On the way, we encountered some coatis, which were lovingly referred to as monkeys by a few German tourists in front of us....ahja :D For an entrance fee of 70 pesos, we were allowed to visit the ruins. But before that, we had to pass through all the tourist and souvenir shops. Once we were through, we saw the first ruins. We started our tour. The most spectacular view was from the ruins down to the beautiful ocean. It's no wonder that the Mayan ruins of Tulum are one of the most photographed sights in Mexico!

Dream Beach Tulum

The way there felt agonizingly long in the blazing sun. But when the beach finally came into view, we knew it was worth it. The difference to the beach in Playa del Carmen was simply enormous. No sunbeds, no loud music, hardly any people. We found a nice spot near a shipwreck and enjoyed the sound of the ocean. Unfortunately, the sea was a bit rough today due to the strong wind, so we couldn't go swimming, but it was enough to cool our feet :)
