9th - 11th Jan 2017: Karijini National Park

प्रकाशित: 18.01.2017

The last stop of our road trip was supposed to be Karijini National Park. Originally not planned in our route, we decided to visit this place based on some recommendations. The national park is located in an area surrounded by several mountains and rivers, carving deep canyons into the red earth of the Outback. Just the day before, the tour guide in Exmouth spoke about the most beautiful place in Western Australia. And personally, I have to say: it was definitely the most impressive. Flinders Peninsula in Albany is still the most beautiful place I have seen here. But Karijini comes right after it. We had some bad luck as the eastern side is closed due to a bushfire for several months. However, the western side was stunning as well. The rivers mostly flow only during rainfall, but they have some 'pools' where water accumulates. And as long as they are accessible, you can swim there too. The canyons themselves sometimes strongly reminded me of the Grand Canyon (see comments on Basti's Facebook picture). But at this point, I don't want to write anything further, I just want the pictures to speak.

We visited and swam in:

The Hamersley Gorge:

...and lastly, various places outside the canyons:

The dirt roads took a toll on the car and the red dust settled everywhere. At least the writings on the rear window were still visible and even better to see.

More dirt than car
