18.09. - from the fort to the treehouse

प्रकाशित: 23.09.2017

'Alllahh akkba...' lalala... wohhooo we almost stood up from the sung morning call in bed. We were abruptly awakened from sleep by the noise of the nearby Arabic girls' school. Luckily, it was just before the alarm clock rang, otherwise I would have been more than unbalanced. Still a little tired, we got dressed and went to breakfast. Here, too, we got eggs, toast, and fruit, which tasted good. We had agreed to have breakfast a little earlier (8 am) because we wanted to go into town. Unfortunately, the shops were just starting to open, so I could only visit a few shops. However, I got my long-awaited postcards and a sticker for Micha's suitcase from an older gentleman. In a small alternative shop, I found a small fabric animal mobile for babies, which I couldn't resist. We arrived at our accommodation a little late and chatted with the host. Unfortunately, we were the only guests that night, but the following days would look better. Our guide arrived a little late and started with the suitcase Tetris. Now the journey continued without a break to Weeravilla, to a completely different accommodation: a treehouse. Upon arrival at the resort, we were greeted with a refreshing drink, and since we were the only guests here too, we were upgraded. We got the loft treehouse. It consisted of a living room and a floor above with a bedroom and a bathroom. Due to the weather, it was slightly weathered but still impressive. Only the roof was above the bedroom, but the sides were open. After the poor guy had carried all the suitcases to the top floor, we went to lunch at the resort restaurant. I chose a sandwich and Stephan had the classic curry with rice. Since it was only around three o'clock, we had plenty of time to relax. We went to the pool, watched the gardener plant mango trees, and rested in our treehouse while reading. We were called for our very special dinner at around 7 pm. The hotel manager squeezed himself onto the backseat of the tuk-tuk with us, and we drove in the dark to the BBQ by the nearby lake. After a short time, we reached the campfire, and a table set with candles awaited us, inviting us to a romantic meal. A glance to the side revealed that a total of six people were taking care of our food. We felt a bit like being in a TV show because everyone was only focused on us. Of course, there was again way too much food. There was fish (fresh from this lake), pork, chicken, corn, and sausages. The moment was simply indescribably beautiful, and we enjoyed it to the fullest. Fortunately, we only found out later that this was the lake where an Englishman was killed by a crocodile a week ago. Luckily, we were only about 10 meters away from the shore. One consolation was that it was the other shore...well. On the way back, we had a very good conversation with the manager and exchanged ideas about the economy and Sri Lanka in general. When we arrived back at the camp, we said goodbye because we wanted to leave for our safari at 5:30 am the next day. We cuddled up in our bed comfortably and listened to nature. I was able to fall asleep relatively quickly and well. Unfortunately, Stephan, with his light sleep, did not sleep so well. He woke up often, and I believe it was not quite as relaxing for him as for others. I was only awakened by the howling of the dogs and was able to quickly fall back asleep.
