Wangara Lookout, Cazneaux Tree and Arkaroo Rock

प्रकाशित: 15.04.2019

Actually, we had planned a proper mountain hike for today, but we're still tired from yesterday. So, let's start with a leisurely round to the Wangara Lookout. The path is very beautiful, lined with beautiful "Red River Gums" (one of the many eucalyptus species, see photos). The lookout itself is not that special, but it gives you a good idea of the shape of Wilpena Pound.

Since it's only noon, we first visit the "Cazneaux Tree". The tree became famous through a photo in a magazine. Very beautiful motif against the background of the eastern flank of the Pound. But it's a bit cloudy for us...

Finally, we march to the Arkaroo Rock, an indigenous sacred site. Here, Aboriginal people left rock drawings a long time ago. But they are disappointing, just like the fence that secures the otherwise very interestingly shaped rock (against vandals).

Today, for practical reasons, we are staying at the camping site in Hawker. Because we have rented a 4WD with high ground clearance for tomorrow.
