📍Fraser Island, Australia

From Rainbow Beach, we took a small ferry in a 4x4 truck to Fraser Island, which is known as the largest sand island in the world, measuring 123 kilometers long and 22 kilometers wide, and is protected as a World Heritage site. 🏝️

Fraser Island is known as K'Gari in the language of the Aboriginal people, which means 'paradise'.

On Fraser Island, there are up to 250 dingoes, which are originally wolves from Asia. They were brought to the island by Asian sailors as protection against food thieves and rats, and later became a source of food themselves. 🐶

On the first day on Fraser Island, we visited the only rainforest in the world that grows entirely on sand, without any soil. The Terpentine Trees in the rainforest can grow up to 11 meters in diameter and are over 1,000 years old. Another unique experience was the visit to Lake McKenzie, which is a rainwater lake covered in sand dunes. Here, we were able to take a refreshing swim. 🏊

In the afternoon, we hiked through the sand and forest to the green Lake Wabby. 🥾

On the next day, we first visited the Mahone Shipwreck. Then, we were able to swim in the so-called Champagne Pools. The pools are named after the bubbles that form when the ocean waves meet the freshwater in the pool. 🍾

To end the tour, we had a relaxing time drifting along the current of Eli Creek. The spring here flows with 4.2 million liters of water per hour. 💧

The absolute highlights of the trip were the dolphins and whales that we were able to observe in the ocean, as well as two young dingoes in the wild. 🐳
