Stage 3: Achenkirch - Maurach

प्रकाशित: 14.07.2017

After a good breakfast, we started directly at nine o'clock along Lake Achensee. However, rain showers were forecasted for the whole day, which were expected to become more frequent towards the evening. Right at the start, the first shower came, but my jacket held up well and I arrived quite dry at the end.

According to the map, the route seemed to be a pretty cozy tour along the lake, where you could relax a bit. However, it wasn't a promenade as I had suspected, but rather a narrow path along the cliffs, where you occasionally had to hold onto a rope to keep your balance and avoid slipping.

Despite the gloomy weather, there were some great shots of the turquoise-blue lake and the steep cliffs that were on the left and right of the path. It was not uncommon to come across a small waterfall cascading into the depths.

After about two hours, we passed by a hut, where I had a hot chocolate to warm up since it wasn't really warm with 10 degrees, but the walking kept me less cold.

After the hut, we continued along the rocky coast and slowly but surely, the path became wider and flatter, leading to the next village, where we could walk to the hotel along good hiking trails by the lake.

I arrived at the hotel around 2 p.m., and since it has been raining continuously since then, I stayed in the room and rested. There is a cable car right next door that goes up the mountain, but you would just be stuck in the clouds there.

Dinner is served from 6 p.m., and tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., I will be going back up into the mountains by bus and gondola. It is expected to stay dry, and from the afternoon until the end of the Alpine crossing, it is expected to become sunnier and warmer, so I will have good visibility since I will only be running above about 1500 meters from tomorrow onwards.
