First, we visited the Pagoeta Nature Park, where there is a botanical garden in the middle of the forest. Here, various plants are cultivated, from eucalyptus to palm trees and countless flowers. Unfortunately, we are not here at the right time of the year.
We hike down to the old Agorregi Goikoa mill, which was built far away from any village in the forest. It is a huge building with a sophisticated canal system that channels water from various streams to the mill through different paths. There are reservoirs on three levels, from which the water could be selectively directed to the wheel.
An incredible intellectual achievement.
Afterwards, we got stuck in the charming coastal town of Getaria. This is the hometown of the first circumnavigator Juan Sebastián Elcano and the singer Pepita Embil, the mother of Placido Domingo.
