Day 33 & 34. The rockfall

Byatangajwe: 03.07.2017

Hello everyone,

Today, when I woke up at 2:00 am, I decided to get up and go back to the North Cape globe. Oh, I forgot to mention, the North Cape and the North Cape Center (including all facilities) are public property and therefore free of charge. However, the parking fee for 4 people, Consti also has to pay, is quite high with 640 NOK (approximately 70€). For that, you can stay in the parking lot on the plateau in front of the North Cape for 24 hours. Bicycles are free of charge. Anyway, we also stayed here overnight.

And at 2:00 am, there is no one here! I am completely alone and thanks to the midnight sun, it is bright as day.

After my short night walk, I go back to sleep. In the morning, the weather god is pleased with us! In the last 6 hours, the fog has completely disappeared, so we can see where we actually are for the first time and how impressive the landscape is. Of course, we take photos.

And now we have reached the turning point of our journey. After driving north all the time, we are now going south only. We leave relatively early to avoid the rush of tour buses that bring guests from cruise ships.

At our next stop, I discover a rockfall on our windshield and immediately think, 'If it cracks, we will have to look for a new insurance, as last year we had to pay €4600 for a new windshield including installation!'

Well, let's just hope.

To ensure food for ourselves and the children for the next few days, we stop at a Rema 1000 in Alta. Rema 1000 is approximately what Rewe is to us. And what is on the other side of the street??? Hurtigruta Carglass

Wupp, the door of the motorhome opens and Tascha disappears into the building and reappears shortly afterwards with an employee. Fortunately, the rest went quite smoothly. I called the insurance company and Tascha called Carglass Germany.

And then the relieving news: Norway is also part of the network! That means, Hurtigruta Carglass will simply repair it and get their money from Carglass Germany. Carglass Germany, on the other hand, will settle with the insurance company as usual. We are supposed to come tomorrow morning at 10:00 am, then the windshield will be repaired.

A few kilometers before Alta, there was a nice rest area right by the fjord, where we spent the night.

The next day, we arrived at 9:30 am and asked if we could leave Nala in the motorhome, as we wanted to go to the nearby shopping center during the repair time. 'If he behaves, then it's no problem', was the answer of the Carglass employee.

After a while, we received a call saying 'Your camper is ready'. By the time we returned, the employee had cleaned our dashboard, cleaned the windshield, and now comes the best part... he says to me: 'I also walked the dog! He peed twice and pooped once'. I was almost in disbelief. We said goodbye with an appropriate tip. Then we quickly refueled LPG in Alta and continued south.

After about 150 km, we stopped for the day and set up our overnight camp at a nice little harbor.

So, those were 2 eventful days!

See you tomorrow...
