Finally the time has come: my adventure started on March 10th with the flight to Cairo.
It wasn't difficult to leave the rain and the cold behind...
It wasn't until the landing that the journey felt real: through the dense haze, I caught a glimpse of the huge Nile Delta! Much larger than I had imagined.
After a long wait for my suitcase, my pre-booked taxi was long gone. Thanks to eSim, I was able to easily order an Uber. A good 35 minute drive and I arrived in the middle of Cairo at the hostel. The ride in the elevator to the 10th floor was more frightening than the ride in the Uber...
The hostel is located in downtown Cairo on Tahrir Square. Great location, but difficult to sleep with the noise consisting of constant honking, barking dogs, blaring Arabic music, and loud phone conversations. Anyway, before going to sleep, something has to be eaten first. The recommendation at the hostel: go eat Koshari. Koshari is a pretty nutritious dish consisting of lentils, pasta, rice, and chickpeas, which is mixed with tomato sauce, garlic and lemon juice, fried onions and spicy paste. The result doesn't look appetizing, but it is!
I felt a bit uncomfortable walking alone to the restaurant, but hunger won - it was worth it.
