Tag #14 -#16 - Koh Tao

Hi,

Three days ago we went to Koh Tao and fortunately our wishes were fulfilled - the water there is crystal clear! So on the first day in Koh Tao we went snorkeling right away and wow: the underwater world really impressed us. Even in water just under a meter deep, the most colorful tropical fish were frolicking. It's no wonder that Koh Tao is popular for diving - the number of dive schools is almost overwhelming...

Well, the first bays we discovered were not very crowded and even at the famous Shark Bay, there were only a few tourists in the water, until Jakob came out of the water excitedly: you can actually see sharks there. About 1 meter long blacktip reef sharks. Well, after that the water became much busier because everyone wanted to see one too...

Otherwise, the island above water unfortunately doesn't offer much, except for really good sandwiches on every street corner - Subway is out of the picture now.

On the second day we finally went diving. Therry did her first scuba dive and Jakob did a refresher course since his last dive was a while ago. We were lucky to be alone with a barely older American as our dive instructor. While Jakob was still doing his fun dive, Therry went snorkeling in shallow water near the coast and saw an even bigger shark!! It might have been worth it even though she scraped herself on a rock full of shells everywhere...

Despite the amazing underwater world, we decided to deepen our diving knowledge in Indonesia. Unfortunately, we have to go back to Koh Samui today: our flight to Phuket is in two days. However, this morning we went snorkeling again. The water, stirred up by the bad weather, made the farewell a little easier at least.

The crossing took four hours instead of two because of the weather. But at least we got rid of the party tourists (which feels like everyone!!!) because the Full Moon Party is happening on Koh Phangan today (see previous posts).

Tomorrow we're going on a boat trip to the Ang Thong National Marine Park, including kayaking. And then we'll have to save money for a while, as we have been living far beyond our budget for days.

Your Teri+Yaki
