The bathroom is a bit outdated but everything is okay. Shortly after 8 o'clock, I sit on the terrace in front of my room with my coffee from the room's own plunger. The hotel is part of a smaller complex of holiday homes/apartments and you can see into other people's rooms or onto a wooden house wall.
When G. arrives, breakfast is served to us.
Yogurt, fruit, muesli, toast, sliced cheese, orange marmalade, juice as well as scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon! Shortly after 9 o'clock we sit in the car completely exhausted. The detour to the lighthouse is a disappointment as it is almost completely covered in haze. So let's go. Today we have almost 300 km ahead of us. Yesterday, today and tomorrow are the long stretches of this vacation in order to get back to Cape Town - from Amakhala it's about 800 km - but we're not driving straight there.
Because today we consciously want to take a detour to L'Agulhas (pronounced: Lagallas). Because this is the southernmost point of Africa, where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet.
Now we're rolling and seeing funny things on the road.
After Swellendam we turn left towards the south and drive about 90 km on a well-developed straight road through endless fields. We see springboks, monkeys and storks sitting in the fields.
After 50 km we pass Bredasdorp and after another 40 km we reach Struisbaai. There are supposed to be stingrays in the harbor basin. We look for them but unfortunately don't see any today, but we do see a Dachshund who guards the small harbor.
A small harbor bar is good for a 19 Rand (1.20EUR) coffee and then we leave this little picturesque bay towards our destination of the day: L'Agulhas.
Our hotel Beachcomber Bed & Breakfast is located in the 2nd row from the sea and our room is small but nice. Bathroom with shower/toilet, completely without hooks for anything.
We drive with the car to the lighthouse, which stands beautifully defiantly at the end of the continent. You can also stay there in an attached building.
Now we drive by car to the southernmost point of Africa. Take pictures and continue on a not very pleasant gravel road to a small cluster of houses.
There is Pebbles Beach. The whole bay is covered with round stones accordingly. Very beautiful. But of course not suitable for swimming (without shoes). We sit in our beach chairs here in the sun for 1.5 hours while the fishermen come into the bay with their boats.
Writing in the diary, writing postcards, drinking the bottle of wine from Stellenbosch from Neethlingshof (this was the first winery we visited in Stellenbosch on the evening of our arrival - the bottle has already been opened several times). We put it in the fridge of the B&B to keep it cold and despite the two weeks of rocking and the changing heat/cold it still tastes good.
The fellow guests of the B&B eventually complain that our conversation is too loud. Well, off to bed then.
